Know God's Joy. Work for Justice. Practice Peace

Missions at UUMC

Participation in missions ministries begins with the young at University UMC. Children collect for UNICEF in costumes, sometimes before they can walk. And by the time a young person enters high school, he or she has usually participated in more than one mission trip and many service projects. The Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a common experience shared by youth and adults.

"My family and I came to this church because we were so impressed with the positive impact this church created in the broader community.  The opportunity to serve others in very constructive ways keeps me an active participant here.  Whether AI am supporting Kids' Place, painting the dorms at a boys' shelter with Faith Beyond Walls, raising a roof with Habitat for Humanity, or contributing to food pantries and disaster relief agencies, UUMC provides me an avenue to express my faith, without words, that is both concrete and satisfying in every way."

Mission is a primary experience that defines UUMC.  Choose one of the following and join others doing mission work as part of their commitment to UUMC. Local ministries include the Clothes Closet, our small Food Pantry, and Faith Beyond Walls.  Mission trips are scheduled through the year in local, regional, national, and international settings.

"I love ASP!  I don't think I've ever done anything better with my time, my life."

"The most important week of the year for me is the ASP mission trip."

UUMC also supports District, Conference and General Church mission initiatives.  More information on United Methodist missions can be found at www.umc.org

The Bridge: Serving Meals to the homeless and food insecure people of St. Louis
The Bridge at Centenary UMC is a daily drop-in center open over 60 hours per week, for homeless individuals and families. The Bridge helps to meet the basic needs that we all have: nutricious food, a safe & dry place to seek refuge from the elements, a clean restroom, use of a phone and computer, and a permanent mailing address - even if you don't have a home.

UUMC helps serve meals at the Bridge on the second Mondays of the month and the fifth Monday when one occurs. Dinner service is at 5pm, volunteers need to be there from 4:30pm to 6pm.  Please contact Becky Gunter for more information. The Bridge is located on Olive Street between 15th and 16th, in downtown St. Louis. The Bridge, 1610 Olive St., St. Louis, Missouri 63103.

"I love the fact that even the younger youth always have a chance to do service and mission with our church family!"
