Consider participating in the great adventure of a mission trip to Mozambique planned for 2011!  Make a difference in Mozambique and in Missouri.

A planning group is working to consider itinerary, dates, specific mission tasks, budget and fund-raising strategy, in consultation with The United Methodist Church in Mozambique.

If you are interested in exploring participating in the trip and/or the planning group, please contact Tom Mitchell at TomM8132@aol.com.

Learn more at our next meeting, Monday, August 16th, 2010 at 7 PM at University UMC, 6901 Washington Ave., St. Louis 63130.

A rough sketch of the trip is as follows:

Destination:  City of Beira, Sofala Province, Mozambique in southeast Africa.  The sister church of University UMC and Grace UMC is Central of Beira UMC.

Dates:     September 2011, probably starting about September 14th.
Length:   14 to 17 days

Costs:     Probably in range of $2,800 to $3,500.  All inclusive, except for shots, anti-malaria protection and passport. Tentative budget is $3,318.

Specific Tasks:    To be determined.  Many possibilities, including construction and teaching.  Our friends at Central Parish of Beira are excited to have us.  They will be reporting back to us on their thoughts on priorities and projects.

Ages:     18 and up

Open to:     University UMC members, Grace UMC members, community and Missouri Conference UMC members

Financing:  Being determined by the group.  Probably a mix of personal contribution, private fundraising and group fundraising.  The first project in Spring of 2010 was an on-line fund-raising offering annual and perennial plants and seeds.

The second fundraiser is a breakfast at Applebee's at Maplewood Commons, off Hanley north of Manchester Blvd.  Saturday, August 14th,  8 AM - 10 AM.  Tickets are $10, all you can eat, including pancakes, eggs, juice and coffee.  We'll have fun and fellowship.
Tickets now available from any Team member.  Come join us!

Team Leader:  Tom Mitchell (6 prior trips to Mozambique, 4 as a leader), including team orientations, arrangements in Mozambique and budgeting.  Team members will organize themselves to take on responsibilities for gathering the paper work, doing fund raising, and assembling funds.
